Time to photograph some food…

The best part of having a new menu launch is the fact you have to photograph all of that food for the website and social media pages. It falls to the Marketing team to sort that out and it’s always our favourite day of the year! What more could you want than being surrounded by delicious food all day and then getting to eat it?!

We enlisted the help of photographer extraordinaire Rob Whitrow. Rob comes with good pedigree after shooting for the likes of L’Ortolan and Daniel Clifford at Midsummer House just to name a few. We knew we were in good hands and we couldn’t wait to get started!

As we are in the midst of a refurb, we couldn’t do the shoot at the hotel so we went to one of our JW Lees sister sites, The Golden Pheasant in Plumley. What a lovely team of people, they looked after us so well considering we got in their way, made a mess and disrupted their service! Thanks to Phil and the team, we promise you can come and try the new food once we re-open!

Sean Sutton and his Sous Chef Phil Smith arrived early to start the kitchen prep while Rob set up in the dining room.

We were shooting ten dishes in total so all in all a shoot of about eight hours. We bet you didn’t realise that so much work went into taking such lovely photos!

We started with the starters, it’s the perfect place to start…! An assortment of Smoked Trout, Chicken Pie and the best Burger with Bacon Marmalade you’ve ever tasted came out in succession from the kitchen. Each dish is plated meticulously by Sean and Phil and we then shoot it from about ten different angles including from above which means Rob climbs a step ladder and balancing precariously above it!

The result is some beautiful photos as we’re sure you’d agree. They look fabulous on our new website and social media pages.

Massive thank you to Rob for the photography, Sean for creating such beautiful dishes and to Vicky for eating all of it and making yummy noises.
