24th July
RHS Flower Show Tatton Park
A rainy day for the RHS!
Our Head Chef Sean Sutton was thrilled to be asked to cook on the Feast Theatre stage at this year’s RHS Flower Show Tatton Park. The RHS is in its’ 20th year at Tatton Park so there was lots to celebrate.
The Feast Theatre plays a big part in the show and Sean was given lots of time to think about a Summery dish to capture the audience and entice them to visit Alderley Edge Hotel. After six weeks of continuous glorious weather, you can imagine our disappointment to wake up on the Friday morning to torrential rain! Of all the days to rain – oh well, at least we would be under cover.
As it turns out, rain was a good thing! It meant more people gravitated towards the Feast Theatre to shelter from the rain but also to watch Sean doing his thing!
Sean was on a prime slot of 4:30pm and had decided to do a Grilled Mackerel with a Hertiage Tomato Salad. The dish is simple, fresh and beautiful to look at, perfect for a cookery demo. Sean used delicate edible flowers picked fresh from our garden that morning. Our gardener Jimmy works tirelessly all year round to ensure Sean has some of the best ingredients and most flavoursome herbs he could wish for.
The demo couldn’t have gone any better. The audience were captured by Sean and he talked non stop for 30 minutes while cooking at the same time! Who said men couldn’t multi-task?! He then plated up the dish and made small plates of it for everyone in the audience who wanted to try it.
A hugely successful day and we fully expect to see some of the lovely audience in our restaurant sampling our new menu soon! Well done Sean and Anthony who came along to help.
